Tune

Officially, God Save the Emperor is played to the tune of Gott erhalte Franz den Kaiser, but other tunes are also accepted.

Use as a national anthem

God Save the Emperor is only played in the Shafterlands, or if the person the anthem is played for lives in the Shafterlands. The Shafterlandean and Japanese anthems are never played together as they do not mix musically, making the Shafterlands the only country with two national anthems.

Proposed union anthem

A proposal was made in 1955 to combine the Japanese national anthem, Kimigayo, with God Save the Emperor to form the Union Anthem, however that has not come to fruition.
