Vehicle registration plates of Limaru have the format of up to three letters and four digits and are issued by the Ministry of Transport. Leading zeroes are not written.
History
Before 1948
All number plates before 1948 had 1 to 5 letters, the first of which is the initial of the owner's surname. e.g. FHBJJ
Before 1992
The first letter was always L to represent Limaru. e.g. LSS 9428

Current series
The first letter can now be any letter except Y and V. After 2006, an EU-style blue strip with "LM" written on it was also added. e.g. RWO 2233
Boat registration numbers
All vessel registration numbers in Limaru are prefixed with V since 1948. e.g. VBA 9087
